1. Introduction

Rubber To Metal Bonding Adhesive 827 is a versatile adhesive that can be used either as a cover-coat with surface-treated substrates or as a one-coat solution in certain applications. It is compatible with a wide range of rubbers, including:

  • Natural rubber (NR)
  • Polyisoprene (IR)
  • Polybutadiene (BR)
  • Polychloroprene (CR)
  • Styrene-butadiene (SBR)
  • Nitrile (NBR)
  • Butyl (IIR)
  • Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer (EPDM), etc.

It is equivalent to Chemlok 6108, Megum 538, and Thixon 511.

4. Applying 827

  • Stirring: Before use, thoroughly stir the adhesive as some settling may occur. Stir until the mixture is uniform. If the application process is lengthy, stir at high speed for 3-5 minutes every 2 hours to maintain consistency.

  • Dilution: Dilution can be done by adding the recommended solvent (xylene) based on the application method. Diluted adhesive should be used immediately and not stored.

  • Application Methods:

    • Brushing: No dilution needed.
    • Roller Painting: No dilution needed.
    • Dip Coating: 100 parts adhesive to 0-50 parts diluent.
    • Spraying: 100 parts adhesive to 30-80 parts diluent.
    • Apply evenly and avoid excess overflow.
  • Coating Thickness:

    • Cover-coat: Dry film thickness of 10-20μm (20-25μm for caustic environments).
    • One-coat: Dry film thickness of 15-25μm (25-35μm for caustic environments).
  • Drying: Allow to dry at room temperature for approximately 40-60 minutes. Forced drying can expedite the process.

  • Storage: Store in a dry, cool area away from high humidity and extreme temperatures.

  • Adhesive Removal: Wipe off excess adhesive with a rag soaked in xylene before curing. Once cured, the adhesive cannot be removed by solvent.

  • Curing: For optimal bonding performance, cure the rubber and adhesive simultaneously. The part should be quickly placed in the molding die, followed by the addition of rubber and clamping to cure. Actual curing conditions depend on the rubber compound used.

5. Notes

  • The solvent is volatile. Always seal containers tightly after use.
  • Solvent vapors are harmful. Ensure proper ventilation and fire safety in the workplace. Avoid prolonged inhalation or skin contact.
  • For more detailed safety information, refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
