828 Rubber to Metal Glue Bunnings Replacement of Chemlok 238 Thixon 814-2

1. Application

828 Rubber to Metal Glue Bunnings is a surface treatment agent designed for bonding rubber. It is used as a surface coating in combination with a Dual Coat substrate surface treatment agent and is suitable for the following types of rubber:

  • Natural Rubber (NR)
  • Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR)
  • Butyl Rubber (IIR)
  • EPDM, etc.

It is equivalent to Chemlok 238 and Thixon 814-2.

2. Characteristics

  • Topcoat Use: Applied as a topcoat in conjunction with a substrate surface treatment agent.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Free from heavy metals and complies with GB33372-2020 and RoHS 2.0 standards.
  • Excellent Bonding Properties: Ideal for non-polar rubbers.
  • Good Weather Resistance: Offers resistance to heat, water, solvents, oil, salt, and corrosion.

4. Applying 828

  • Stirring: The product may form some precipitation during long-term storage. Before use, ensure the glue is thoroughly stirred to achieve a uniform mixture. If the application process spans over a long period, stir at high speed for 3-5 minutes every 2 hours.

  • Dilution: If necessary, dilute the product according to operational requirements. After dilution, stir for at least 30 minutes to ensure uniform mixing. It is recommended to only dilute the amount needed for immediate use, as the diluted product should not be stored for an extended period.

  • Application Methods:

    • Brush Coating: No dilution required.
    • Roller Coating: No dilution required.
    • Dip Coating: 100 parts of 828 plus 10-30 parts of diluent.
    • Spray Coating: 100 parts of 828 plus 20-40 parts of diluent.
    • Coating Process: 828 Rubber to Metal Glue can be applied using brush coating, dip coating, roller coating, or spray coating. Ensure the coating is even to avoid excessive overflow.
  • Dry Film Thickness (DFT):

    • Cover Coating: Recommended DFT is 20μm; for harsh environments, 20-40μm.
    • Single Coating: Recommended DFT is 22μm, within a range of 15-25μm.
  • Drying:

    • Room Temperature Drying: Takes about 45-60 minutes.
    • Forced Drying: Can shorten the drying time; recommended drying temperature is 60-80°C.
  • Storage: Store in a dry environment at normal temperature, avoiding prolonged exposure to high humidity and temperature. After drying, the product can be immediately cured. Ensure the environment is free from contamination during parking.

  • Cleaning: Use a rag dipped in xylene solvent to remove any excess agent spilled around before heating vulcanization. Once cured, the solvent cannot remove the bond.

  • Vulcanization: For optimal bonding, vulcanize both the rubber and adhesive simultaneously. When the coating is placed in a mold, it should quickly be filled with rubber for vulcanization. Actual curing conditions depend on the rubber’s curing requirements.

5. Notes

Storage Temperature: Do not store 828 Rubber to Metal Glue Bunnings below the recommended temperature (below 15°C), as gel formation may occur. If this happens, seal the product and heat it to 25°C, then stir it at high speed until it returns to a normal state for use.

6. Precautions

  • Volatility: 828 Rubber to Metal Glue Bunnings is volatile; always close the container tightly after use.
  • Solvent Fumes: The solvent vapors can be harmful. Ensure proper ventilation in the workspace, avoid prolonged inhalation, and prevent long-term skin contact.
  • Safety Information: Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for additional safety details.
