841 Polyurethane To Metal Bonding Adhesive Replacement Of Cilbond 49 Thixon 406

841 Polyurethane to Metal Bonding Adhesive Replacement of Cilbond 49 Thixon 406

1. Description

841 Polyurethane to Metal Bonding Adhesive is a single-coat adhesive designed for bonding various elastomer compounds to substrates during the vulcanization process. It consists of a blend of polymers, organic compounds, and inorganic fillers, which are dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent system. This adhesive is ideal for bonding Cast Polyurethane (CPU) and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) elastomers to metal surfaces. 841 acts as a surface treatment agent for polyurethane elastomer-to-metal bonding.

Equivalent to: Cilbond 49, Thixon 406.

2. Applicable Range

This adhesive can be used as a single-coat solution or in combination with a primer. It is suitable for the following elastomers:

  • Cast Polyurethane (CPU)
  • Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), etc.

Compatible substrates include:

  • Metals: Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and various alloys, etc.

3. Features and Benefits

  • Good resistance to pre-baking.
  • Single-component formulation for easy application.
  • Compatible with vulcanized polyurethane elastomers.
  • Excellent fatigue resistance.
  • Outstanding weather resistance, including heat, water, solvents, oils, salt spray, and corrosion.

4. Typical Properties

5. Application

  • Stirring: Some precipitation may occur during storage. Stir the product thoroughly before use to ensure uniform mixing. If the application process is extended, stir every 2 hours for 3-5 minutes.
  • Dilution: Dilute as needed based on operational requirements. The diluted product should be used immediately and not stored for long periods.
    • Brush Coating: No dilution required.
    • Roller Coating: No dilution required.
    • Dipping: 100 parts of 841 + 40-70 parts diluent.
    • Spraying: 100 parts of 841 + 40-70 parts diluent.
  • Coating: Can be applied by brushing, dipping, rolling, or spraying. Ensure an even coat to prevent excessive spillage.
  • Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 15-30 μm per single coat.
  • Drying Time: At 25°C, drying takes 45-60 minutes. For forced drying, gradually increase the temperature to 60°C to prevent bubble formation in the adhesive film.
  • Pre-Drying: For optimal bonding, pre-dry at 100°C for 1 hour (recommended 2 hours). For the best adhesive strength and resistance, pre-drying for 4-8 hours at 100°C is recommended.
    • Maximum Pre-Drying Temperatures:
      • 100°C: Up to 48 hours
      • 110°C: Up to 24 hours
      • 120°C: Up to 15 hours
      • 130°C: Must be carefully controlled.
  • Storage: Store in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, avoiding prolonged exposure to high humidity and high temperatures.
  • Cleaning: Before heating and vulcanization, remove any excess adhesive using a rag soaked in 2-Butanone solvent. Once cured, the adhesive cannot be removed with solvents.
  • Vulcanization: For optimal adhesive performance, vulcanize both the polyurethane elastomer and adhesive simultaneously. The vulcanization temperature should ideally be above 75°C.

6. Shelf Life/Storage

The shelf life is 12 months from the date of shipment when stored at 21-27°C (70-80°F) in the original, unopened container. Do not store or use near heat, sparks, or open flames.

7. Precautions

  • This product is volatile—always close the container after use.
  • The solvent vapors are harmful. Ensure proper ventilation in the workspace, avoid prolonged inhalation or skin contact, and take precautions against fire hazards.
  • Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for more detailed safety information.
